AN Altrincham school nurse has been shortlisted for a top industry award.

Dan Lucy, 23, a member of the Altrincham school nursing team of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, has made it into the shortlist for the ‘Rising Star’ category of the Nursing Times Awards, after being nominated by a senior nursing lead from Public Health England.

Dan is among nine shortlisted nominees in the category, which aims to recognise a nurse who demonstrates exceptional qualities that embody the best of nursing and the leadership skills to inspire others to follow their example.

Wendy Nicholson, lead nurse for children, young people and families as part of Public Health England’s chief nurse directorate, nominated Dan for the award after working with him on various projects, including the @WeSchoolNurses Twitter account, on which Dan volunteers.

Wendy said: “I am delighted Dan has been shortlisted for this award. I met Dan two years ago when he attended a school nurse young carers event. At the event I was very struck by his compassion and commitment to public health and improving the lives of young people.

“I encouraged him to get involved with some of national Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) work and also enlisted him as a volunteer for @WeSchoolNurses. I nominated Dan for the award because he is a great advocate for school nursing and public health - he goes the extra mile and really does make a difference.”

Dan, who has been a nurse since 2013, said: “I am delighted just to have been nominated for this award, let alone be shortlisted.”

School nursing services are jointly provided by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and Trafford Council as part of Trafford Children and Young People’s Service (CYPS).
