AN Altrincham based company is offering workshops to Trafford schools to introduce children to computer coding.

Computer Support Services, based in Broadheath, has launched ‘meet the developer’ workshops, allowing pupils to engage with members of their software development team.

Pupils are given an opportunity to use the company’s ‘Stratus Logistics’ programme, which allows energy companies to track personnel and cargo moving to offshore installations throughout the world.

Younger pupils can use ‘Umarkit’ an asset tagging system. Equipment serial numbers and descriptions are entered into the system along with a photograph and item value.

James Black, managing director for Computer Support Services, said: “Meet the Developer allows pupils to see computing and software coding in action. Ultimately having an opportunity to use the developed programs themselves and ask the developers any questions”

Among Computer Support Services’ global clients is the Falkland Conservation Society for which they wrote complex databases to manage penguin monitoring on the island.

The workshop is available to any school or college who are already a Computer Support customer. Schools can apply by contacting info@computersupport.uk.com or calling 0161 850 5080.
