IF you have ever thought about a musical career in your spare time the place to start could be with the Lindow Singers.
The choral group was established 51 years ago when a group of friends in Wilmslow, met up to sing at a flat near Lindow Common. Since then the choir has grown, but the aim of singing for fun and friendship remains core.
Membership secretary Ann Epton said: "Choral singing can help reduce the stress of everyday life, introduces you to new friends and helps develop your musical skills."
The choir gives four main concerts a year, in the Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge areas, and also at the Royal Northern College of Music. "
It also has strong relationships with other choral societies, including Sale Choral Society, to perform larger works.
Mrs Epton explained: "We are a mixed choir singing in four parts, rehearsing in Handforth on Monday's from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, with a repertoire both sacred and secular."
To celebrate last year's 50th anniversary, the group commissioned a work, 'Spirit of Lindow', from Sasha Johnson Manning which was featured in its November and June concerts.
During its many years of performance the group has helped raise the equivalent of more than £30,000 for local charities
Mrs Epton adds: "We are a friendly group and are happy to welcome singers who would like to join us."
