A MAN who was stopped in Wilmslow while under the influence of drugs including cocaine and cannabis, has been banned from driving for 15 months.

Nicholas Marrow, 30, of Firethorn Drive, Hyde, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of illegal drugs when he appeared at Macclesfield Magistrates Court.

Marrow had been stopped by officers from the Cheshire Roads Policing team at approximately 1.15am on Saturday, April 18, 2015, whilst driving on Alderley Road, after officers became suspicious of his driving.

After stopping Marrow, officers took the decision to conduct a roadside drugs test at the scene due to a strong smell of cannabis that was coming from his vehicle.

Following a positive roadside test, Marrow was then taken into custody for blood tests.

The tests revealed that Marrow was almost 13 times over the legal limit for Benzoylecgonine, four times over the limit for cocaine and more than double the legal limit for cannabis – one of the worst ever results recorded since the introduction of the new drug drive legislation.

Mark Roberts, Assistant Chief Constable at Cheshire Police said: "This is the worst case of drug driving that my team has ever dealt with, and had Marrow not been stopped by officers on that night then we could be dealing with a more serious incident.

“Not only did Marrow cause risk to himself, but he also posed a risk to other innocent road users who were driving on that night.

“The sheer quantity of drugs that were in his system severely impaired Marrows driving ability, meaning that he would have been unable to respond appropriately to everyday driving hazards.”

In addition to his driving ban Marrow was also fined £200 and ordered to pay court costs of £205.
