INDIAN expert Kalpna Khurana told girls at Loreto Preparatory School to live in harmony during her lecture on Indian culture.

Since coming to England from India in 1975 Kalpna, who lives in Bowdon, has spread the message of creating harmony with your family, fellow man and mother earth across the North-West.

She has lectured in nearly 100 schools in the region and set up her own action group The Harmony Association to promote the gentler, kinder and more considerate side of life.

During her talk she told the girls of the significance of four of the main Hindu festivals Diwali, the triumph of light over darkness; Holi, the coming together of all mankind; Rakhi, the sanctity of the brother sister bond and Dussehra, the banishment of evil.

She also got to dress some of the lucky girls in her saris and answered a host of questions from both pupils and staff on growing up in post war Dehli.

Loreto Preparatory School Headmistress Helen Norwood said: “Kalpna Khurana explained the significance of many mystical festivals and in doing so showed how we can all enjoy a more harmonious life with a just a little more forethought and attention to one another.”
