YOUNG book worms at St. Antony's Catholic College are catching the reading bug early by being encouraged to devour the latest page turners.

Over the last 18 months the Urmston faith school has introduced a succession of innovative schemes to get their boys and girls reading.

Associate headteacher Fiona Wright said: “Improving literacy has been at the heart of a dramatic rise in academic standards at St. Antony's over the last 18 months."

This term pupils from Year seven, eight and nine have been given a range of books by new authors targeted specifically at their age range.
