From thousands of entries worldwide, Nina, 17, from Hale, came eighth in the world at under-17 level and Shannon, 16, cane ninth. The pair had initially come first and second respectively in the North-West and had been delighted just to qualify. The pair were also part of an eight all girl team from the Doherty School of Dance in Coventry that won team gold.

Nina said: “It was an an amazing experience and made all the effort worthwhile, not just from Shannon and I, but that of our wonderful and totally amazing parents.”

The duo trained five times a week in the run up to the championships.
