A SINGER songwriter who has topped the hit parade will be one of the guests at Knutsford Methodist's Church's 150th anniversary Born in Song concert.

The multi media concert on May 9, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, is the centrepiece of celebrations being held this year to mark the occasion.

The evening of music, drama, singing and contemporary media presentations that will fill the church on Princess Street, to celebrate the story and hymns of Charles and John Wesley.

The event will include singer songwriter Chris Eaton, who wrote three of Cliff Richard’s hit songs including the No1 hit single Saviour's Day.

Mr Eaton will explain how he has been able to use Charles Wesley words as a focus for his own new songs and will describe how he came to write his version of a well known hymn which he will then perform.

There will also be a discussion with leading Methodists, including Sally Thornton, a North Manchester minister who was a professional singer until she felt called to ministry. She is expected to explain her thoughts on music in outreach ministry and using music as a vehicle for expression.

A range of new material written specially for the occasion will be premiered at the event, including a contribution of a rap, specially devised by Knutsford Academy students.

The concert, which is open to everybody, will be led by the organ with a brass quintet, timpani, oboe and a string quartet.

Tickets costing £5, (to include interval canapes and drinks), can be purchased from Knutsford Heritage Centre, the church office or by telephoning 01565 652251. You can also visit the website www.kmc.org.uk
