ALTRINCHAM'S French Festival returns this year with a two day celebration featuring food, drink, and fireworks that promises to be magnifique.

Now in its third year, the festival will take place on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday July 12, the weekend before Bastille Day.

The festival was founded by Zainul Sachak in 2013, and has gone from strength to strength since then.

Reflecting on last year’s success, Zainul said: “Nearly 3,000 people came last year and had a fabulous family day. This year, we're back with a bigger and better event. “

Bowdon Rugby Club will play host to a ticketed evening event including a three course French meal, drinks, live entertainment and a spectacular firework display on the Saturday.

Sunday’s main event will be a free celebration of French culture based in Stamford Park, featuring a wide variety of food and drink, and a range of entertainment for children and families.

Zainul appealed for volunteers to help out.

“There are a lot of opportunities to get involved whether volunteering, running a stall or sponsoring some of the activities," he said.

“You can make a difference by supporting your local community. Your festival needs you, so please get in touch with us today.”

The Festival has raised over £5,000 for Marie Curie Cancer between its first two years, and will once again be raising money with a raffle.

Other highlights of the event include a live concert, vintage French cars, and Boules, along with demonstrations of French cooking

In addition there will be a junior rugby tournament in celebration of the Rugby World Cup, as well as an Art Competition for A level and GCSE Art students.

The event is supported by a number of organisations and businesses including the French Embassy and Alliance Francaise de Manchester.

Bastille Day takes place two days later on July 14, commemorating the start of the French Revolution in 1789 and Fête de la Fédération which celebrated the unity of the French people in 1790.
