A NURSEY nurse and aspiring author working in Altrincham is donating the royalties earned from his book to charity.

Jonny Keen, 21, of West Didsbury, who works at Holyrood Nursery in Gaskell Road, has decided the profits from his first collection of published short stories - entitled 'The Rider in the Waves and Other Adventures' - will be donated to the Christie cancer care hospital.

The Christie, on Wilmslow Road in Withington, is Europe’s largest single site cancer care centre, treating more than 40,000 patients a year and nearly £15m was raised by its charity in 2014.

Jonny said: “I’ve done loads of volunteer work at places like the Society for Abandoned Animals in Stretford but when I wrote the book, I thought it would be a great idea to give the royalties to charity.

“Although I have never been inside the Christie, I have heard about all the great work they’ve done.”

The writer spent 18 years in Timperley before relocating to Milford, Massachusetts with family but he’s since returned to the area where he is based once again.

He added: “I have always loved to write. I like to write about nature, friendship, courage and enjoying the mundane. A couple of kids I work with enjoy playing in the rain so I’ve used that as a basis for a story.

“I like atmospheric driven settings and writers like J.K. Rowling and Neil Gaiman have these detailed places – kids want to be at Hogwarts.

“But I never think I am going to write the story for a specific age. There are elements for people of any age.”

Jonny’s book is currently available online on Amazon.com for £4 and at the Kagyu Ling Buddhist Centre on Manor Drive in Chorlton.

But the author is keen for more shops to help his cause. He can be contacted via email at jonnydkeen@hotmail.co.uk.
