HEALTH care worker Carrie Clarke was so touched by the bravery of a Timperley woman and her friend that she is taking part in a special charity walk in their honour.

Carrie will join around 2,000 walkers in the Manchester Midnight Walk organised by St Ann's Hospice on Friday, June 19.

It is her way of paying tribute to Caron Burns and Bev Lee, close friends who died within the past 13 months.

Carrie, who supports patients with complex care needs, looked after Timperley resident for 16 months after she left hospital.

Caron, a mum-of-two, had been diagnosed with multi-system atrophy, a progressive neurological condition, some 10 years before she died in March 2014, aged 48.

Carrie met Bev, from Northenden, through Caron and also became aware of her story which involved multiple cancer surgery before she died in St Ann's in November.

Carrie, who works for Pulse Community Healthcare, said: "They were two exceedingly special ladies and I want to honour their memory and raise money for St Ann's.

"I like walking and will be doing the 10k walk with a friend Andy Wallis who's had relatives treated by the hospice."

The Manchester Midnight Walk leaves Manchester Central at midnight, with a music and entertainment warm up at the venue from 9 pm. The route covers landmarks such as Manchester Cathedral, St Ann’s Square and Spinningfields.

* Entry is £20; £15 for past walkers and £10 if aged 11 to 17. To register go to www.mmwalk.org.uk or call the St Ann's fundraising team on 0161 498 3631.
