THE deadline for people to register to vote in next month’s General and local elections is fast approaching.

Would-be voters are being reminded that in order to be able to vote their application must have been received by midnight on Monday, April 20.

Poll cards have been sent out to every household in Manchester for each person already registered at the address.

Where no one is currently registered, residents have already been informed.

Theresa Grant, electoral registration officer for Trafford, speaking on behalf of the Greater Manchester electoral registration campaign, said: “This really is the last chance for people to make sure they are registered."Anyone who wants to make their choice count in these vital elections need to make sure they are registered without delay.

“We’ve been making strenuous efforts to make sure everyone is aware that they need to be registered. But we can’t register them unless they provide the information we require. Anyone who has been putting it off should act now before it’s too late.”

Registering to vote is quick and easy and you can do it online in less than five minutes at www.gov.uk/registertovote - you just need to have your national insurance number handy.

Anyone who is on the electoral register and eligible to vote can sign up for a postal vote. For May 7, the deadline for postal vote applications to be received is 5pm on Tuesday, April 21.
