FIREFIGHTERS were dispatched to the Coronation Street set in Trafford only to find that the incident was a controlled explosion by the soap’s special effects team.
Crews were alerted to an explosion and fireball at the set, on the quayside in Trafford, yesterday evening.
But it turned out the flames emanating from Weatherfield was part of late night filming for a forthcoming storyline.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 9.25pm on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, we received reports of an explosion and a fireball seen on the set of Coronation Street on Warren Bruce Road in Trafford Park.
“Three fire engines and an officer were sent to the scene but fortunately it turned out to be a false alarm – the explosion was caused by special effects.”
GMFRS service had earlier tweeted: “The Coronation Street set is NOT on fire!”
The Coronation Street set IS NOT on fire! People have reported hearing an explosion and seeing flames but it was part of special effects.
