ALTRINCHAM Synchro Ice Skating Club tasted international success in Belgium when all three age groups won silver medals in the Kempen Trophy 2015.

The three teams, the Whizz Kids in the juvenile category, the Silver Blades in the junior category and the Bladerunners in the adult category, performed to popular hits such as Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ as they wowed the judges with their performances.

The Whizz Kids’ performance, while dressed up as ‘Minions’ from the popular animation ‘Despicable Me’, proved to be a particular highlight.

Sam Ozard, the team’s coach, said: “It was amazing because you go from Altrincham, our little ice rink, and find out that you can hold your head up high in Europe.

“You’re never really sure about how you’re going to do but it was amazing to do so well. We’re aiming for gold next time.”

The high-profile international competition saw 650 skaters perform in 65 teams from eight countries across the continent.

It’s not the first time the Silver Blades have seen success in major tournaments. The Bladerunners scooped silver medals at the British Championships in January.

The teams are now targeting more successful internationals in the Budapest Cup next year.
