PROSPECTIVE Parliamentary candidates for the Stretford & Urmston constituency went head to head at a special business themed election hustings on Tuesday night.

Labour’s Kate Green, the Tory’s Lisa Cooke, Lib Dem Louise Ankers, Geraldine Coggins for the Greens, UKIP’s Kalvin Chapman, and Paul Bradley-Law for the reformed Whigs Party, were all at the event organised by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

The not-for-profit business support organisation arranged the event for local businesses to come and learn the views of each of the constituency’s candidates standing in May’s General Election.

The evening, held at Urmston Library, saw more than 50 business owners in attendance, with the panel answering questions on business rate reform, late payment and supply chain abuse, car parking charges, and also saw a lively debate on zero hours contracts.

The FSB’s chairman for Manchester and North Cheshire, Simon Edmondson chaired the event. He said: “It was an opportunity for each candidate to set out their business policies to local people, who turned out in number to meet the runners and hear exactly what their vote would get. What was quite clear is that small business is firmly on the agenda of all the candidates, and there’s going to be a lively debate all the way to the election in May.”

The FSB has two other hustings events in April: Bolton West on April 14, and another in Stockport’s Hazel Grove on April 22, and both are free to attend.
