A HEALTH worker from Timperley is asking people to sponsor her for 10p a day as she plans to run a mile every day for a year to raise money for charity.

Rebecca Sutherland, 22, works as an assistant practitioner at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where her manager encouraged her to get involved with Destination Florida.

Every two years the charity organises a trip to Florida for 75 children who have missed out on their childhood through illness.

Rebecca said: "If people sponsor me for 10p a day, which is £36.50 for the year, then we need 100 people and I’ve raised £3,500.

“My first donations have been for 36.50, so people have definitely picked up on it.”

She also described seeing the difference it made to the children when she went on her first trip with Destination Florida last September.

“I wasn’t prepared for just how shocked I would be and how much of an impact it would have on me.

“I’ve not really been able to stop thinking about it.”

She is planning to start running on June 14, and says that she decided to take on the challenge because it will be difficult.

She explained: “I don’t want to do something that’s easy, I want to do something that challenges me so it sort of represents the challenges that these children face on a daily basis.”
