STUDENTS at an Altrincham Primary School celebrated 'huge success' at a cross country championships.

St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School claimed seven podium finishes at the event, which 35 student runners took part in.

Ciara Sutton, PE co-ordinator for the school, spoke about the children’s enthusiasm for the running club.

She said: “They absolutely love it, all of the children get involved.”

Ms Sutton also explained that their triumph was the result of a team effort from the running club, which currently has 100 members training each week.

“What is really nice is that even the children who aren’t in the A or the B team, the younger children, contribute to it because without them running the stronger runners couldn’t get to the front.

“So they really do all feel like they’ve put themselves into the race and made a difference.”

Ms Sutton also described the students’ experience: “They had a great day with lots of trophies and medals for everyone.”

Two boys and girls teams competed in each age category, with five of the teams finishing in either second or first and two children achieving individual podium finishes.
