ALTRINCHAM businesses broke their own record for fundraising as they united to fight cancer by running 140km for charity on Thursday.

A total of £2,300 was raised for The Christie, which treats more than 40,000 cancer patients each year, surpassing last year’s total by £300.

The event, called Altrincham Vs Cancer, took place in Altrincham’s PureGym on Stamford New Road on March 12 and featured 28 runners from 25 businesses in the town.

PureGym Altrincham’s general manager, Ben Chamberlain, said: “This is the second year that PureGym have been involved in the Altrincham Vs Cancer event and we were delighted to host the event in our club for such a worthy cause.”

The event, co-organised with social media experts Altrincham HQ, took inspiration from the 140 character limit on social media site Twitter.
