A BOMBER Command veteran from Sale will become the oldest person to complete the daring zip wire from the roof of the Imperial War Museum this weekend.

93-year-old Frank Tolley will leap from the top of the iconic Trafford landmark on Saturday, and speed across the water to the Lowry to raise money for the £42,000 restoration of St Paul’s church roof in Sale.

The ex RAF man, who flew 22 operations as a Lancaster Bomber bomb aimer during the Second World War, is the last surviving veteran of the conflict to still volunteer at the museum.

No stranger to heights, Frank said he was looking forward to the event and is appealing to Messenger readers to sponsor him.

Cheques payable to ‘St Paul’s Church, Sale’ can be sent to 43 Oakfield, Apartment 10, Sale, M33 6NG, or handed to the church at 15 Springfield Road Sale, M33 7YA.
