RESIDENTS are being invited to view the plans for a multi-million pound extension to the wastewater treatment works in Davyhulme.

United Utilities has written to householders who live near the Davyhulme treatment works, inviting them to a public exhibition of the plans at Urmston Library on Tuesday, March 17, between 2.30pm – 7pm.

Richard Sutton, the senior project manager for United Utilities, said: “We are now at the stage where we have appointed a contractor to carry out the project and work is just getting under way, so the timescales and plans are starting to come together.

“This is one of the biggest upgrades we have ever carried out at Davyhulme. Parts of the process date back to the 1930s and this is all about upgrading the plant so that it can serve the people of Manchester for decades to come.

“By modernising the works we’ll be able to treat the wastewater to higher standards and fine-tune the process so it can perform better regardless of the weather.

“We know local people will have questions about vehicle movements, construction noise and odours and we’re keen to be able to address any concerns.”

United Utilities has appointed engineering joint venture LORI (Laing O’Rourke and Imtech) to carry out the project which is expected to be completed by summer 2018.
