NEARLY 300 women in Trafford die each year from heart and circulatory disease, statistics have shown.

The latest British Heart Foundation (BHS) survey estimates 340,000 women in the North West region are diagnosed with heart and circulatory conditions each year.

Trafford reached 287 deaths, lower than surrounding areas with Manchester claiming 461 and Salford at 322.

It is a global killer for women with around 80,000 deaths in the UK significantly higher than figures for Breast Cancer.

The BHS is calling on females in the North West to support International Women’s Day on 8 March to raise awareness for the disease.

The campaign called ‘Women with Heart’ encourages people to share stories and acknowledge the inspirational women in the fight against heart and circulatory conditions.

The charity will be sharing stories on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #womenwithheart hoping to bring women across the country together to contribute in any way they can.

Simon Gillespie, chief executive of British Heart Foundation, believes it’s an opportunity to highlight the threat that cardiovascular disease has on an individual’s health.

He said: “Every day we hear stories about the countless women who show an inspirational grace and determination through their own struggle with heart diseases and it’s time we celebrate these individuals.”

To share your stories and join the conversation on International Women’s Day on March 8 use the hashtag #womenwithheart and #IWD2015.
