STUDENTS at Manchester Health Academy were given a special surprise on Monday when Manchester United players Phil Jones and Luke Shaw paid a visit.

The players met students from the academy and from Sandilands Primary School to celebrate them completing the Manchester United Foundation Leadership course.

Manchester Health Academy teachers also nominated students who had demonstrated a positive outlook, resilience, a helpful attitude and a determination to work hard in school to the event.

Vice Principal, Gaynor Gorman, said: “Visits like this are about raising aspirations, but it’s not just about football, it’s about hard work and a will to succeed.”

As part of the event, Manchester Health Academy sixth form Student Dilon Ashton spent the afternoon at Old Trafford helping with translating during a girls football tournament with Spanish-speaking players, including Radamel Falcao.

Dilon speaks fluent Spanish and regularly helps with translating during training, and plans to go on to study sports rehabilitation at university after completing his BTEC.
