A TRAFFORD entertainer who has been variously labelled the borough's Frank Sinatra, is set to pay tribute to 'Ol Blue Eyes' at a special centennial concert held in April.

Wayne Devlin will take to the stage in Urmston on April 24, to mark the one hundredth year since Sinatra's birth in Hoboken on December 12, 1915 and died in May, 1998.

Wayne, who was born in Trafford, developed his singing through his father, was spotted singing in New York and invited to go to Las Vegas, where he performed a Rat Pack style repertoire at both the Golden Nugget and The Flamingo Casinos.

While in Vegas, he performed on the stage at The Flamingo, where Sinatra had performed many of his classic shows over many years.

After his return home Wayne performed a similar style of crooning for several years at the Trafford Centre.

He said: "Frank Sinatra recorded such recognisable classics in his lifelong career that anyone on this planet would be hard pressed to not name at least one song recorded by this icon of swing.

"I was christened by the Messenger newspaper 'Trafford's Frank Sinatra' - a title I am very proud to hold. However, I am not a Sinatra impersonator in look or sound.

"And standing at six feet two inches tall, shaved head, facial stubble and arms covered in tattoos, I am as far away as possible a look-a-like of Sinatra as there could be."

An area where both he and Sinatra are more similar, was in their efforts to fundraise for a variety of charities with the money raised from the concert raffle and an auction going to a sensory room at Cheeky Cherubs.

Last year Trafford Council recognised the work Wayne has done and awarded him the title as: 'One of the 40 Faces of Trafford'. He was also recognised in the same year in his local area with a 'Community Recognition Award'.

Devlin has also acted on screen in commercials and has appeared on Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Happy Valley, Peaky Blinders, Coronation Street and Shameless.

The concert will be held at Our Lady and English Martyrs Parish Centre, Davyhulme Road. Urmston, starting at 7.30pm

Tickets costing £10 are available online from www.waynedevlin.com or from Home Estate Agents in Urmston.
