A FLIXTON nurse who has dedicated her career to caring for children has received the MBE.
Mother-of-two Caroline Sanders was presented with the honour by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace on Friday.
Caroline, who is a consultant paediatric nurse at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, West Derby, Liverpool, said: “I felt very honoured to receive the award and very humbled that what we do in our everyday role makes such a difference to people’s lives.”
Caroline, of Devon Road, added: “ At heart I am a children’s nurse motivated to do what I can to help the children and families I care for.
“ I enjoy training families and nurses to be able to enhance care and ensure the children can access all aspects of their lives.”
After starting her career at 17, working at Pendlebury and Booth Hall hospitals in Manchester, she moved to Alder Hey 17 years ago.
She received her honour for services to paediatric urology and gynaecology. She has worked in the field of paediatric urology for 19 years and gynaecology for the past few years.
She works as a consultant nurse in paediatric urology and gynaecology at Alder Hey, leading a urology nursing team of five that cares for children from the North West and North Wales.
Caroline, aged 47, was a Wellchild nurse of the year in 2007 and completed a PhD at the University of Central Lancashire where she is now a senior researcher.
She is married to Jonathan and they gave two grown-up children, James, 30 and Hannah, 21.
