HALE residents have won the backing of a leading politician in their efforts to guarantee Trafford Council keeps their library open.

Altrincham MP Graham Brady is backing the campaign in support of Hale Library.

The council is currently consulting on library provision looking at a number of options.

Mr Brady said: "I support the campaign to ensure that it remains open and available for local people, either in its current building, or in a new facility following redevelopment."

According to Mr Brady, Hale Library is used by thousands of people including

mums and toddlers, community groups, people who need access to the internet, artists, charities and many more.

He added: "It is efficiently staffed by both paid staff and volunteers and is one of the few public libraries in the south of the borough."

At a meeting at weekend, the campaigners and local councillors, agreed to form a Friends of Hale Library group with the objective of developing a proposal for a community managed library.
