A CHARITY for deaf people is appealing for 'puppy socialisers'.

The charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, is needing volunteers who are based in Altrincham, Hale Barnes and Ashley and the surrounding areas to step forward.

A spokesman for the charity said: "We are taking initial enquiries from people who are interested in volunteering as either full time or holiday cover puppy socialisers.

"Volunteer puppy socialisers will take a hearing dog puppy into their own home when it is approximately eight weeks of age, and care for it for approximately 14 months.

"Puppy classes will take place every fortnight in a local hall, and full support will be provided by the puppy training instructor.

"After approximately 14 months, the adolescent dog then returns to one of our two national training centres, where it will carry out its advanced sound-work training and and learn to become a working hearing dog."
