TRAFFORD Housing Trust has revealed more details of their proposed £4.5m canalside mixed-use development off Stokoe Avenue in Altrincham.

The scheme will create 16 houses, a new base for the Seamons Moss Community Association and a new home for Trafford Rowing Club.

Planning proposals have been submitted by SixTwo Architects on the Trust’s behalf and, if approved, work will commence later this year on the site, which comprises a mixture of overgrown scrubland, former allotments and a portion of Oldfield Brow Recreation Ground.

Paul Westhead, senior development manager for Trafford Housing Trust, said: “This has been several years in the making and we are delighted to working with two important local groups in bringing forward great new facilities for the Borough and looking forward to hopefully getting started in the not too distant future.

“The scheme provides a superb new base for both the Seamons Moss Community Association and Trafford Rowing Club, both of whom are in desperate need to have a new home to meet the current and future requirements and will give a new lease of life to an area of open space that has been used ineffectively in recent years.

“The development will also provide excellent facilities which can be accessed by local residents and will also provide a number of quality new homes for Altrincham residents on both an outright sale and shared-ownership basis.”

The proposed scheme comprises 16 detached and semi-detached properties, with ten available on the open market while the remaining six are due to be available on a shared ownership basis as part of an assisted buying scheme.

Other aspects of the development include a permanent, purpose built home for the Seamons Moss Community Association which has not had a fixed base for over five years. The Association itself is providing the majority of the funding for its new centre and has worked closely with THT and SixTwo on the design of the scheme.

Another key component of the project is a site adjacent to the Bridgewater Canal which is set to become the new home of Trafford Rowing Club which is currently based at Walton Park in Sale.

Designs for the boat club include a terrace rooftop with both the club and community centre sharing a number of joint facilities such as kitchens and bathrooms.

Trafford Housing Trust has also pledged to create a fund which will allow members of the local community and nearby residents to determine what additional amenities the adjacent can benefit the community to compliment the few facilities.
