ALTRINCHAM'S adult Bladerunners Synchronised team took silver at weekend in the British Championships held in Nottingham.

Three teams from Altrincham Synchronised Skating Club took part including the Whizz Kids (aged seven to 12) who finished just out of the medals in fourth spot and Silver Blades (12 to 18), who finished in a commendable fifth place.

However, it was the adult team which set the pace when it took on skating teams from across the country in a three minute routine to the song Human by The Killers.

A delighted Sally Greenway, a photographer at The Messenger said: "The most important event for us to appear at is the British Championships, because everyone goes to them.

"It's the seventh time we have competed and this is the first occasion that we have won a medal. We had hoped for gold but we were pipped into second place by Bracknell Fusion, by just thirty one hundredths of a mark.

The 14 member team aged 18 plus upwards, were presented with their medals by championship officials before the playing of the National Anthem.

The next challenge for the teams is the international Trophy D'Ecosse ISU International next month in Dumfries and skating against European opposition in Belgium in April for the Kemper Trophy.

Team coach Sam Ozard said "I am immensely proud of the Bladerunners in getting silver, which means that all the hard work, effort and early morning 6am starts has paid off. They just keep getting better!"
