AN application has been submitted to turn the land upon which Greater Manchester Police's Old Trafford headquarters stood on into a match day car park.

The application by Greater Manchester Police, aims to turn the site on which their former Chester House HQ, White City Way, stood for more than 30 years into a parking facility for up to 200 cars, which it is hoped will generate thousands of pound a year in additional income for the cash strapped force.

The proposal would be to extend the use of the south section of the car park to allow for events at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium.

The application would not affect the north car park, which would continue to be used by police staff.

It would allow motorists access two hours before and two hours after each event at the stadium and also create parking bays for disabled drivers.

The plans reveal pedestrians would continue to use the existing footpath on Boyer Street to make their way to and from the ground.

The determination deadline for the application is Feb 5.
