A Network Rail spokesman confirmed that the Navigation Road level crossing would not be one of the 500 due to close before 2019.

Responding to a Messenger enquiry following reader queries, the spokesman said: “We are committed to improving safety on the railway and will spend £100m to close 500 level crossings across Britain by 2019.

“This is in addition to the 800 which were closed between 2010 and 2014. The Navigation Road crossing is not listed for closure but we will always listen to any suggestions put to us.”
