FLIXTON Girls School hosted the finale to a year of charity with a Christmas Party for pensioners.

During the autumn and winter terms, the pupils and staff have focused their efforts on supporting children’s charities, homeless people and the vulnerable elderly community.

Fundraising, awareness-building and food donations have been the main elements of the activities, starting with the school’s October Harvest Food Festival, which led to hundreds of items being donated to Stretford Food Bank. The Bank was further supported with funds raised through a Dress Down Day.

Hampers for the local elderly community were donated and created by the pupil - and the OAP Christmas Party welcomed over 70 people to the school for food, drinks and music to celebrate the festive season.

The school also held a carol service at St Clement’s Church earlier in the month and is donating new and unwrapped toys to Key 103’s Mission Christmas Campaign, to go towards the station’s donation of over 150,000 gifts for needy children on Christmas morning.

Lisa Fathers, associate headteacher of FGS said: “These are all charities that are close to the school and the donations increase year on year, which is wonderful to see."
