AS we head towards midwinter and the shortest day, signs of Spring are already stirring in the
Winter Garden at Dunham Massey.
In the past week, a single clump of snowdrops has flowered in the garden – the first of around
250,000 planted in the five years since it opened in 2009.
Katherine Cook from Dunham’s gardening team says: “We believe this single plant is the earliest snowdrop clump ever to bloom in the Winter Garden. We spotted it a few days ago and whilst it has been joined by others since, these latter plants show no sign of flowering as yet. It is lovely to see a sign of spring even though it’s so early - and makes us feel winter is on its way out”
Dunham’s Winter Garden is open daily - closed Christmas Day. Anyone interested in finding out more should visit nationaltrust.org.uk/dunhammassey
Father Christmas is visiting Dunham on December 20 and December 21, from noon. Tickets are £4 per child.
