TRADERS in Urmston have presented with an inaugural award to actor and singer Wayne Devlin.

Known as ‘ Trafford ’s Frank Sinatra’, Devlin, was handed the award for his contribution to communal life in Urmston.

He was also presented with the honour for his contribution to local charities.

The joint organiser of the award Lisa Burnett said: "Wayne was chosen for his outstanding contribution to Urmston, his tireless charity events, bringing his celebrity friends and putting Urmston on the map."

She added: "He always represents Urmston in a positive light and is a good role model to Urmston residents.

"He does a lot of things behind the scenes that people don't know about. And even when he can't attend an event he always sends auction prizes such as signed scripts from Coronation Street or Emmerdale, items of clothing worn on tv with signed photos of the actor wearing them.

"Quite simply he is not just one of the 40 faces of Trafford but is the face of Urmston."

Wayne was presented with a silver platter and a bottle of Jack Daniels from Sainsbury’s Urmston.

Wayne said: “The Urmston Community Recognition Award was a complete surprise to me.

“I am absolutely thrilled, grateful and honoured to be the first ever person to win this award.

The award was organised by Stephen Groves from Home, Wendy Dudley Evans from NailsXpress, Lisa Burnett from I Love Urmston, Anthony Mortimer from Floribunda and Neil Hughes from Sainsbury’s.
