JEAN Barton, resident of Wyncourt Nursing Home in Timperley, has been honoured for 70 years working as a lay preacher in the Methodist church.
The 94-year-old preached at churches in Altrincham, Hale, Bowdon and Timperley and she received her honour from the Rev Kevin Johnson, the minister responsible for the circuit taking in those churches.
When asked how she felt about her award she said it was a shock but a lovely surprise.
A tireless worker in children's social services, Jean wrote pantomines for all the children's groups attached to various Methodist churches including the Boys Brigade, youth clubs and Sunday schools. The pantos were big events and a highlight of the children's calendar.
