A NEW care facility for older and vulnerable adults has won a top industry award.

Sale's Fiona Gardens has lifted the prize for the Healthcare Project of the Year at the Builder and Engineer Awards.

The project saw off competition from projects which included Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust ,t o take away top prize.

Fiona Gardens, which was developed by Trafford Housing Trust in partnership with affordable housing contractor Wates Living Space, was created on the site of two former care and community centres on Atkinson Road.

The facility now features a residential complex with one or two bedroomed flats for sale and rent.

In making their decision the judges stated:“We fell in love with the Fiona Gardens development. The scheme has increased resident well-being, freed up much-needed family homes and created local employment opportunities.”

In addition to the spacious, modern and part-furnished properties, Fiona Gardens features extensive communal spaces, courtyards and landscaped gardens together with on-site services for residents, their visitors and the local community including a bistro restaurant, a hairdressers, private resident’s lounge, guest accommodation, an activity areas, a ‘pamper’ bathroom and a multi-sensory room.

Larry Gold, the boss at Trafford Housing Trust said: “The Healthcare Project of the Year award is great recognition of all the hard work that has gone into this major new build project.

"We hope Fiona Gardens becomes a place for older and vulnerable people for generations to come, and further be utilised by people throughout the local community.”
