THE new Urmston Post Office has been officially opened by a leading politician.

Stretford and Urmston MP Kate Green was present to cut the ribbon on the new office, which moved from High Road to Flixton Road, in August.

The open plan layout with low level counters and writing desks will provide access to some services seven days a week and additional opening hours, something that Ms Green welcomed.

Ms Green said. “It’s great that the post office has responded to the concerns and priorities of local residents by protecting the services local people need while opening longer hours and offering greater flexibility to customers.

The move, which saw the branch open at its new site in August, was part of a major modernisation programme across the post office network designed to ensure branches are sustainable, profitable and no longer reliant on government funding.

Roger Gale, Crown network general manager, said: “We have always been committed to keeping a post office branch in Urmston and to maintaining the same levels of service for our customers.”

The new office has five serving positions. These are a mixture of two screened counters, two open-plan counters and a Post Office serving point at the retail counter, allowing Post Office services to be available even longer.

The new location is at Eden News, 24-26 Flixton Road, Urmston, Manchester, M41 5AA.

The opening hours at the new location are 08.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, with post office services available at the retail counter for even longer, 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday.
