ALTRINCHAM Court Leet Community Carol Service will be held on Wednesday December 17 at 7.30pm in St Margaret’s Parish Church, Dunham Road, Altrincham.

As part of ongoing commemorations of the First World War, this year’s ecumenical service will have the theme of ‘The First Christmas’, and will link the nativity with the first Christmas at war, linking the themes of family, friendship, hardship and abundance.

The service will focus on the trenches truce football match of 1914.

Spokesman James Mangan said: “The carol service will incorporate the military, uniformed organisations and footballers; a chance for the community to come together and banners, flags, scarves and symbols are encouraged.

“Much is happening in our world, so many problems that are not easily resolved but at Christmas time it’s a time to reflect, to give time and share the love. It is hoped that the service will reflect many strengths and passions.

“It will be a unique opportunity for uniformed organisations as well as many other organisations to join together at this special time of year.”
