PUPILS from a Stretford school will have their images put on public display.

The children from Victoria Park Junior School will show their seasonal works of art put on show as part of the build up to Christmas at Stretford Mall.

The paintings will form part of a festive art trail which include Old Trafford football ground and Stretford Town Hall.

The pictures which have been done by year 6 children will be officially unveiled on Friday, November 28.

It involved 58 boys and girls, aged 10 and 11, who each turned their ideas for wintry scenes of places they know and love in the area under a covering of snow into vivid reality with the expert help of staff from community arts company, Faceless.

Tony Wade of Faceless, who led the workshops, said: “It all went very well and the children produced some beautiful pictures of famous landmarks and buildings in the area, all with a wintry theme.

“We had 58 very talented children involved from two year six classes and they all enjoyed taking part. In fact, I think teachers at the school are now thinking about further projects looking at the area’s architecture and history.”

Victoria Park teacher Siobhan O’Toole, helped organise the art workshops with her colleague Mel Tidman.

She said: “It’s been absolutely amazing. All the children have thoroughly enjoyed it and the skills they have learnt and the artwork they have produced have really been of a very high quality.

“Every single child has created their own, beautiful winter landscape, using materials which wouldn’t ordinarily be available to them so it has been a very special project.

“I think the children will feel a real sense of pride at producing a piece of artwork which will impact on their local community and is going to be viewed and appreciated by family and friends in the area that they live in.

Colin McCrory, Stretford Mall manager, said: “While we will also have our own Santa’s grotto and beautiful Christmas decorations, we were keen to find new way to build the festive atmosphere at the shopping centre and I am really looking forward to seeing the children’s hard work up on display.”
