CHRISTMAS gets underway this weekend with two hours of games, music and giveaways.

Altrincham Forward has organised the event with Silk 106.9, to bring early festive cheer to Goose Green on Saturday, from 3pm to 5pm.

There will be Christmas themed performances from local acts, while all those shoppers attending will have a chance to win more than £1,000 in gifts, as part of a sleighful of presents, provided by businesses in Altrincham.

Competition entries will be collected during the afternoon event and the winner announced on Saturday, November 22, at the Christmas light switch on in the Stamford Quarter.

Chairman of Altrincham Forward Cllr Sean Anstee, said: "This Christmas we wanted to really showcase what the town has to offer both to local shoppers and those from further afield.

"Goose Green is one of the town's prettiest locations and home to some of the town's best bars and restaurants."

Mark Rubin, the owner of the Goose Green Retail and Leisure Development said: "This part has always been a vibrant and integral part of the Altrincham retail scene, so it's very important that it should take a keen interest in the Christmas celebrations, and we have been happy to support Altrincham's Christmas campaign this year."

Executive councillor for economic growth and planning, Cllr Michael Hyman added: "Businesses have been incredibly generous with their donations and we wanted a competition to be open uniquely to Altrincham shoppers, those people who use and support the town, and will be doing their shopping here this Christmas."

As well as musical entertainment, there will be festive fare on offer at Cafe Cleo and drinks on the terraces at La Piazza and The House Restaurant and Wine Bar.
