FLIXTON Cricket Club first team has won the Bolton and District Cricket Association club championship - for the first time since joining the league in 2008.

The championship, which is the second oldest league in the country, was claimed on the last game of the season when Flixton gained the 2 required bonus points away at Walshaw CC.

Team captain Aiden Fetherston: said: “I have been at the club for 20 years now since joining as a junior aged 11. This is the strongest side I have known with all 11 players contributing to our success. Whilst we have ‘star’ players who have represented Lancashire, and overseas players from both Australia and Jamaica, I can honestly say every single player contributed."

The club is grateful to the support from companies in the area who have sponsored the club to allow investment in the junior players' facilities – Deccan Restaurant; Home Estate Agency; Davyhulme Homecraft and Chorlton Scaffolding.
