A NEW mum who chased after yobs who had vandalised her car is celebrating – as the culprits have now been caught.

Aisha Alvi had been to a restaurant in Altrincham with her husband and 10-week-old baby on September 13, but as the family were walking back to their car, they saw a group of six young men hovering around their vehicle.

Unaware that the family were the owners, one of the men threw something at the parked Jaguar, smashing a headlight, before the group ran off laughing.

Aisha, who is a criminal barrister, said she was so annoyed by the mindless vandalism, that she chased after the offenders without really considering what she would do when she found them.

The 39-year-old eventually managed to corner two of the men in Hale and was then joined by police – who had been called by her very worried husband who was looking after their baby.

However, the two young men were adamant that they had not been involved in the incident and as neither was the individual who actually damaged her Jaguar, Aisha started to doubt herself.

But after reuniting with her husband, the couple realised the two men Aisha had cornered were definitelty part of the group that had surrounded their car.

After agreeing with police that she would not press charges, an officer from Trafford South Police visited one of the men Aisha had chased into Hale – who the officer had identified from CCTV, along with two other men from the group.

Aisha said: "The officer went to his house at 7am, so he was obviously a bit shocked.

"The officer said if he didn't help identify the boy who had damaged the car he'd arrest all three of them.

"So lo and behold, the boy who did damage our car did came forward later that day."

The man who vandalised the car has agreed to pay for the damage and apologised through the police, but Aisha would like him to apologise to her personally as a form of restorative justice.

"I'd quite like a face to face with him and want him to explain what he's done," Aisha said.

"I'm pleased, because we would have been completely out of pocket as there was a lot more damage than we realised – he'd hit the bumper, so it would have cost us £750 rather than £250 as we first thought."
