A TIMPERLEY children’s entertainer and writer is hoping to make the world smile with the help of a fluffy ‘cub reporter’ called Charlie Ted.

Dave Thompson, 53, has gathered increasing numbers of followers on Twitter with the launch of a blog following the exploits of his creation, a fluffy teddy bear who travels around the world.

So far Charlie Ted’s journeys have included meeting the Lord Mayor of Tenerife and an interview with the first Swedish rower across the Atlantic.

A father-of-two, Thompson explained his vision behind the idea: “Charlie Ted’s main aim is to spread happiness and smiles and to create well-being throughout the universe.

“Charlie likes to have his own me-time and is very interested in yoga and meditation. He is not a follower of any religion but as far as he is concerned we’re all one in the universe."

Thompson was inspired to create the character following some difficult circumstances in his own life, after the death of his wife to cancer 18 months ago. Subsequent financial hardships led to Thompson having to leave his home Tenerife and return to the UK.

Thompson says: “When Charlie was first given to me, he helped me through some rough times – and I would like to share this positive influence, the power of a good friend, with others in need.”

Thompson is currently writing a book inspired by the character, but hopes at the same time to generate more interest in Charlie’s web operations.

He was recently invited to bring Charlie along to help promote the recent First World War exhibition at Wythenshawe Hall.

Thompson welcomes requests from other event organisers who would like coverage from Charlie Ted the reporter.
