HALE Village was awash with unwanted bras on Saturday, October 4.

It was the launch of an October Bin the Bra campaign at See Saw Lingerie, on Ashley Road, by Coronation Street actress and resident Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster in the street.

Sally has good cause to support the scheme, organised by the charity Against Breast Cancer for, when filming her character's battle with the disease, she was diagnosed herself.

Fortunately, following a lumpectomy and chemotherapy, she is now in remission.

Women are encouraged to deposit their unwanted or unloved bras in See Saw lingerie and other different Hale outlets such as Vicky Allen, Faddies, JoJo Maman, Willow, The Stock Exchange, Vanilla and Adiva.

The charity has teamed up with BCR Global Textiles which helps small businesses in Africa.

The garments are given a new lease of life in countries where bras are too expensive to produce.

For every tonne of bras donated, Global Textiles will donate £1,000 to Against Breast Cancer – which equates to 9,000 bras.

The shops included in the scheme are also accepting donations of stamps and money for another breast cancer charity, Genesis.

The launch was attended by Denise Laver, the Provost of Altrincham Court Leet and chairman of Hale Civic Society.

It is a Hale Civic Society initiative.
