TRAFFORD Carers Centre supporters scaled new heights last weekend to raise money and awareness for the charity with an abseiling event.

The eight brave volunteers from the centre, along with the Chorlton Runners group, took to the dizzying heights of the Bell Tower at the Trafford Centre.

They raised £1,000 for the charity which supports more than 4,500 carers in the area.

And back on the ground the Chorlton Runners Eco Team did their bit by selling cakes and treats for the charity.

Trafford Carers Centre provides information, advice and support services to carers, helping them look after their own wellbeing and ensuring that they are able to access a break if needed.

Every year, unpaid carers save the UK economy £119 billion, often at great personal cost.

In Trafford alone, around 23,500 people are carers, sometimes providing 50 hours of care a week or more.
