BIG-HEARTED staff at a Stretford pawnbrokers have picked a sweet way to help send a terminally-ill woman and her young daughter on a dream trip to Florida.

When 36-year-old Becca Parkes was given the news that she had incurable lung cancer back in 2012, she immediately drew up a 'bucket list' of things she planned to do while she still could.

Right at top was a trip to Florida with her 15-year-old daughter, Ambur.

But as the cost of the stateside holiday is so high – particularly for travel insurance for someone with her condition - Becca’s friends and family have rallied round to raise as much cash as they can for her.

To help with fundraising, H&T Pawnbrokers, in Stretford Mall, is running a 'sweetstake', in which customers have to guess the exact number of sweets crammed into a large glass jar to win themselves the confectionary prize.

The store’s charity co-ordinator, Victoria Green, 39, said: “We do regular fundraising events here at H&T and as Becca is a real inspiration to everyone who knows her we couldn’t think of a better cause than supporting her trip to Florida with Ambur.

“We stand to raise at least £100 from this but people have also been kindly making donations of cash so the final amount could be quite a bit more than that.”

Victoria, who lives in Sale and has worked at H&T for the past three years, said once the lucky winner is selected, their name will be announced at a charity night which has been arranged to support Becca and Ambur’s transatlantic trip.

The event will take place in St Ann’s Social Club, Cross Street, Stretford, starting at 7.30pm on October 4.

Tickets are available on the door on the night.

Becca, who lives close to Stretford Mall and shops there regularly, said: “I think it’s just amazing and I’m overwhelmed by it.

“You think the people of Stretford have done all they can for you and then they just top it by doing something else.

She added: “Both Ambur and I have always wanted to go to Florida for a big holiday.

“So far we have about £3,000 towards the holiday thanks to the amazing generosity of so many people.
