A NEW film has been released showing what a new Metrolink service through Trafford Park could look like.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is currently holding a major 12-week public consultation on plans for the new line, which closes next month(September 26).

The new video takes passengers on a virtual journey along the 5.5km route, which would branch off from the existing Pomona stop on a largely off-street route through to the intu Trafford Centre, providing a direct link to the city.

It also shows six new stops, planned near to key destinations including Wharfside for Old Trafford, the Imperial War Museum North, Trafford Park Village, Parkway, EventCity and the Trafford Centre.

Peter Cushing, Metrolink director at Transport for Greater Manchester said: “We’ve had a fantastic level of response to our plans for a Metrolink line to Trafford Park.

“Our officers have spoken to hundreds of people at drop-in events along the line and there’s still plenty of time for people to have their say on the proposals.

“This video fly-through really brings the tram line proposals to life, showing how Metrolink would give more people across Greater Manchester better access to jobs, shopping and leisure.”

The new line would also allow for an increase in services for cricket and football match days and events at Old Trafford through a proposed new turn back facility at Warren Bruce Road – similar to that serving the Etihad Campus at Velopark.

Feedback received during the 12-week long public consultation will help TfGM finalise the before applying to government for statutory powers to construct and run services on the new line.

It could be built as early as 2019/20, but this would be subject to the timescales involved with securing both the necessary powers and full funding.

Any comments on the proposals can be made online at www.tfgm.com/traffordparkline by completing a response form in the consultation brochure, or by sending an email to future.metrolink@tfgm.com

The consultation closes on September 26.
