POLICE in Urmston have sought to reassure the community following the murder of Rhyan Wilson.

A statement on North Trafford Police's Facebook page read: "Many of you have raised concerns regarding police presence, particularly in Urmston, following the tragic incident last weekend.

"Your local inspector wants to reassure Trafford residents with this message:

"The police do not have an infinite number of officers and policing in the current climate of budget cuts is particularly challenging, we have to prioritise where we patrol based on the known, current problems.

"In relation to 999 calls, we have tight time scales that we have to get to these incidents, and we constantly meet these – we keep people safe.

"Each residential area has a dedicated neighbourhood beat officer and PCSO who look to deal with long term problems, you may not always see them but they are there out and about.

"Please take comfort that, despite the tragic incident in Urmston over the last weekend, Trafford remains the safest borough in Manchester in which to live, work and visit."
