THE transformation of Altrincham's Market Quarter is complete, following a £600,000 investment fromTrafford Council.

The regenerative work has included the restoration of the historic Market Hall, as well as the covered and lower market areas.

With improved lighting, electrics, plumbing, ventilation and refurbished toilets, additional repairs within the hall and the introduction of WiFi, owners Market Operations hope the development has created an exciting and attractive new shopping experience.

The Market Hall investment has also seen a new external glazed canopy and entrance lobbies introduced, as well as a new timber floor, furniture and fully refurbished stall fronts and counters.

In addition, the council has supported the relocation of the existing outdoor market to the new market square.

Executive councillor for Economic Growth and Planning, Cllr Michael Hyman, said: “This investment reinforces the council’s continuing commitment to the market.

"This inspirational work has helped establish the market as the new true beating heart of the town.

"I am sure that visitors from near and far will be impressed and captivated by the area.

"By working with Market Operations the council has been able to make sure the area retains the best original features and character, while adapting it to ensure a fit-for-purpose, interesting, adaptable environment for modern day market traders, shoppers and visitors old and new.

"This, together with the commitment of everyone involved and the enthusiasm shown by shoppers to the market hall and town centre, is sure to cement a prosperous future for the area.”

Market Operations director, Nick Johnson, said: “We believe that the re-birth of the market will bring a new energy to the town in the same way that many of the London markets have had in areas such as Borough, Maltby Street and Broadway.

"The project balances this ambition with a brand new square closer to town for Altrincham’s historic, and vitally important, traders”

"With the popular specialist Sunday markets continuing, a whole programme of summer events and activities organised within the market and across the town centre and all the regular traders continuing to welcome customers new and old, the future is extremely bright for Altrincham’s dynamic, contemporary market and wider town.
