A man has been stabbed to death in a street fight in Urmston, police have said.

The 18-year-old, from Stretford, ¬- named locally as Rhyan Wilson – was stabbed in the chest outside the Ivory pub in Flixton Road, at about 2am today, Saturday, after reports of a gang of men and women fighting.

He was taken to Hope Hospital where he later died.

A 25-year-old woman from Urmston has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.

Another 18-year-old man is in the Manchester Royal Infirmary in a stable condition with stab wounds to the neck and leg.

A murder investigation is under way and a post-mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death.

Det Supt Andy Peach said it was a ‘shocking incident’ and police believe the people involved knew each other.

He added: "From early accounts we believe there was an earlier verbal altercation outside the Ivory pub which escalated into violence and this tragic death."

Rhyan, was known to his friends as Riddy and tributes to the teenager have been posted on social media sites.

It is understood he was a former pupil at Wellacre Academy. in Flixton.
