TRAIN passengers are being urged to plan ahead this month as Network Rail continues work on the West Coast main line.

Those travelling to London from the North West, the West Midlands and Scotland should note the railway will be closed between Saturday August 9 and Monday 11, Saturday 16 and Monday 18, Saturday 23 and Monday August 25.

A reduced service will run until 4.30pm on Monday 11 and Monday 18 and the railway will close on Monday 25, reopening on Tuesday August 26.

Jim Syddall, acting route managing director for Network Rail, said: “There is never a good time to close the railway and we apologise for the inconvenience caused but this work is essential to maintain reliable train services for the millions of passengers who travel on this route every year.”

More closures are planned for Wednesday December 24 to Monday December 29.
